Manchester City sign Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for British record £125m

Manchester City completed the signing of Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea on the final day of the summer transfer window for a fee of £125 million ($169m), equalling the British transfer record. The 25-year-old Argentina international, who played in the 2026 World Cup final, had been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge. The deal was completed just before the 2200 GMT deadline, with City confirming via social media. Fernandez had bid farewell to Chelsea fans on Instagram, expressing his emotional state. He was part of the Chelsea side that won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup in 2025. City manager Enzo Maresca, who previously worked with Fernandez at Chelsea, was a driving force behind the deal. Fernandez will join a revamped midfield alongside Elliot Anderson and Ayyoub Bouaddi. City's director of football Hugo Viana praised Fernandez as a complete midfielder. Fernandez had previously expressed interest in joining Real Madrid, leading to his being dropped for two matches last season.
