Dutch police arrest 34 after deadly gang shootout in Overasselt

Dutch police have arrested 34 suspects after a drug-related shooting in Overasselt, a village near the German border, that left a security guard dead and two police officers injured. The shooting occurred at 4am when police arrived at a house to investigate reports of suspicious activity. A large group of masked men opened fire immediately, killing a 51-year-old security guard and injuring two officers. Police seized weapons, data storage devices, and vehicles. Suspects include nationals from the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and Algeria. Prosecutors say the shooting may be linked to a long-running conflict, as the same house was shot a dozen times last year. Local media linked the incident to the criminal underworld of Dutch drug lord Jos Leijdekkers. Justice Minister David van Weel condemned the violence and said the investigation is ongoing.
