Raja Shehadeh's Palestinian diaries archived at University of Edinburgh
On September 3, 2026, the personal journals of Palestinian writer and lawyer Raja Shehadeh will be officially transferred to the University of Edinburgh's Centre for Research Collections. The archive, comprising over 5 million words across tens of thousands of pages, documents life in the West Bank since 1967. Shehadeh decided to move the archive from Palestine due to threats from Israeli incursions and the war in Gaza. The digitization and transfer involved collaboration with the University of Exeter and Jerusalem's Educational Bookshop. Shehadeh views the archiving as an act of resistance against the Balfour Declaration's intent to cancel Palestine's existence. The university plans to make the collection an open access resource.
