Nigeria's anti-corruption chief says he has dismissed 40 EFCC staff for corruption

Ola Olukoyede, chairman of Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), announced at a briefing in Abuja that he has dismissed over 40 staff members for corruption and financial malpractice during his tenure since October 2023. More than five of the dismissed officials are already facing prosecution, and case files are being prepared against others. The EFCC has also renamed its internal affairs department to the Department of Ethics and Integrity and introduced a gifts and hospitality policy to combat conflicts of interest. Olukoyede highlighted the agency's achievements, including recovering 1.23 trillion naira ($925m) and securing 10,872 convictions between October 2023 and July 2026. The EFCC declined to provide further details about the alleged corruption involving former staff.
