New drug baxdrostat shows long-term efficacy in resistant hypertension

At the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) congress in Munich, new long-term data from the Phase III BaxHTN trial were presented, evaluating the efficacy and safety of baxdrostat in patients with uncontrolled or resistant hypertension. The study demonstrated a mean reduction in seated systolic blood pressure of -12.6 mmHg compared to placebo or standard therapy, with the effect maintained up to 52 weeks. Baxdrostat is an aldosterone synthase inhibitor that reduces aldosterone production, addressing a key mechanism in difficult-to-control hypertension. Experts emphasize the importance of this innovation given the high prevalence and often silent nature of hypertension, and the fact that only 33% of Italian patients achieve target blood pressure levels.
