NASA Deep Space Network's New Goldstone Antenna Goes Online
NASA's Deep Space Network (DSN) has completed and brought online Deep Space Station 23 (DSS-23), a new 34-meter multifrequency beam-waveguide antenna at the Goldstone complex near Barstow, California. The antenna was inaugurated with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on August 25, 2026. DSS-23 is part of the DSN's Aperture Enhancement Project, which began in 2009 to upgrade and expand the network by adding six new 34-meter antennas. This new antenna will boost the DSN's capacity and enhance NASA's deep space communications capabilities for decades to come, supporting missions that operate over different radio frequencies. The DSN is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a division of Caltech, for the agency's Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) Program.
