John Galliano exhibition at New York Met cancelled after backlash

The decision came after backlash over his 2011 conviction for making antisemitic remarks. Galliano issued a statement expressing accountability and regret, acknowledging that an exhibition would be painful for some. The cancellation also affects the theme of the next Met Gala, which was to coincide with Yom HaShoah. Anna Wintour, Vogue's global editorial director and Met trustee, supported the decision, as did New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin and the Anti-Defamation League's CEO Jonathan Greenblatt.
