Israeli police arrest council head and family in southern local authority corruption probe

On August 31, 2026, Israeli police arrested a sitting council head in southern Israel along with family members and senior council officials on suspicion of bribery, bid rigging, fraud, and fictitious employment to embezzle funds. The arrests followed a covert investigation by Lahav 433's anti-bid-rigging task force, in cooperation with the Southern District police. Seven suspects were arrested and six others detained for questioning. Searches were conducted at the local authority's offices. The suspects are expected to be brought to the Rishon LeZion Magistrate's Court for remand extension.
