French LGBTQ rights leader hospitalised after homophobic attack in Paris

Pierre Picavet, a French police officer and president of FLAG!, an LGBTQ rights association for interior and justice ministry employees, was hospitalised after a nighttime attack in the Marais district of Paris. Prosecutors said he was struck with a bottle, sustaining internal bleeding and a head wound. The attacker allegedly used homophobic slurs and continued despite Picavet identifying himself as a police officer. The suspect, who was intoxicated and had no prior record, was taken into custody. Paris Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire condemned the attack, and STOP Homophobie denounced it as homophobic violence.
