9/11 Cancer Cases Among Survivors Up 1,680% in 10 Years

New York City, United States·
DoseFix EditorialMulti-source synthesis

According to data from the World Trade Center Health Program, cancer certifications among 9/11 survivors, Manhattan residents, and workers at or near Ground Zero have surged from 3,204 in 2015 to 57,044 this year, a 1,680% increase. For the first time, the number of cancer cases among survivors who lived, worked, or attended school near Ground Zero (28,913) has surpassed that of responders (28,131). The increase is attributed to toxic exposure from the fires and collapses, as well as the aging of the affected population. Rare cancers are also on the rise, including thymus tumors (82 cases), neuroendocrine tumors (591 cases), male breast cancer (188 cases), and brain tumors (163 cases). The New York Post reported these figures ahead of the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
