Widow sues Singapore Airlines over husband's death in turbulence incident

London, United Kingdom·

Linda Kitchen, 74, from Thornbury near Bristol, has begun High Court proceedings against Singapore Airlines after her husband Geoff, 73, died following severe turbulence on a flight from London Heathrow to Singapore in May 2024. The flight dropped around 6,000 ft over Myanmar and was diverted to Bangkok. Linda suffered a broken back and spent 10 days in hospital. Her lawyers say Geoff was 'fatally injured' and that she seeks damages to access specialist support. The airline has been contacted for comment. The incident occurred about 10 hours into the flight, and Geoff suffered a heart attack after the sudden drop. Linda says she was separated from Geoff during the turbulence and later learned he had died. Her lawyer, Anthe Korelidou, says the family still has questions about what happened and whether more could have been done.
