Uganda's King Oyo Nyimba of Tooro dies aged 34

Oyo Nyimba, the Omukama of Tooro, a traditional kingdom in western Uganda, died late on Thursday at the age of 34, according to an announcement by Tooro's prime minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki. Akiiki expressed profound sadness and called for unity and calm among the people of Tooro. He stated that an official statement with funeral details would follow. He also claimed that the king leaves behind a prince as heir, whose identity will be revealed later. Oyo Nyimba ascended to the throne in 1995 at age 3, following the death of his father. He was recognized by Guinness World Records as the youngest reigning monarch. His death prompted an outpouring of grief in Uganda and condolences from opposition leader Bobi Wine. Prior to the announcement, local media quoted a government minister saying Oyo had been seriously ill and was receiving treatment in the US. The cause of death has not been officially confirmed.
