Flash flood kills one, leaves 15 missing at Grand Canyon

On Saturday afternoon, a flash flood swept through Bright Angel Canyon and the Phantom Ranch area of Grand Canyon National Park, destroying footbridges and moving boulders. The National Park Service reported one death and approximately 15 people missing or unaccounted for. The body of a 46-year-old man was found near Crystal Rapids on Sunday evening. Sixty-two people have been airlifted out. Hiker Nikki Baggs described the terrifying experience. The NPS closed trails and halted overnight lodging at the South Rim due to extensive damage to water infrastructure. More thunderstorms were forecast, raising concerns of additional flooding.
