Djokovic eliminated in first round of US Open after five-set loss to Navone

Novak Djokovic, ranked No. 5, was eliminated in the first round of the US Open, losing 7-6(7/5), 5-7, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 to world No. 48 Mariano Navone of Argentina. The defeat ended Djokovic's attempt to win a record 25th Grand Slam title and snapped his streak of 78 consecutive first-round wins at Grand Slams, which dated back to a loss at the 2006 Australian Open. Djokovic, who struggled physically throughout the match, said he felt very ill on court, experienced vomiting, cramps, and pain, and that his back and shoulder gave out at the end.
